What good games are there for Mac?

I'm looking for games for my Mac (OS 10.2.. I would like to get Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell but it doesn't come out until May 30. I'm trying to decide whether to get Halo. Also, are there any stores that stock a decent amount of Mac games because I'm tired of shopping online.

Apple's website has a decent listing of games for the Mac. There is an Apple store in SoHo (Prince and Mercer, I think). Then there is J&R downtown which generally has a decent selection of Mac games.

Well I really like Civilization III and Neverwinter Nights. Max Payne is also a very good game and is a bit like splinter cell.

NWN is indeed excellent. Ambrosia Software makes excellent shareware. And I would personally also recommend America's Army- it's free, and it's crazy go nuts. And it's the most realistic game ever (yay).

Max Payne and Splinter Cell both involve sneaking around a level killing people, pretty similar. Obviously they have differences, but the basis premis and implimentation is pretty simular.

If you sneak around in Max Payne like Sam Fisher, I think you're missing the point of the game. And if you go around killing people in Splinter Cell like Max Payne... Well, it's a novel strategy

Both excellent games, but not that similar in premise besides being third person shooters. But hey, whatever does it for ya.

I was talking about them both being third-person shooters. How you choose to play them is up to you. Its like if someone couldn't get NWN, I might recommend Knights of the Old Republic. The stories and settings are very different, but the basic game play (realtime, turn based RPG) is the basically the same.

I find deep fault with your "how you choose to play" justification. If you like SC, I'd lay very good odds on it being for the high-tech equipment, silenced weapons, non-leathal combat, rich stealth experience, and various acrobatics- all of which are missing from Max Payne, being replaced largely by Bullet Time and bodycounts in the hundreds.

It's really more like if someone couldn't get NWN, and you recommend StarCraft (EDIT: Or WC3, on reflection. Prolly a better comparison). The style is the same (or at least similar), directing units around from a 3/4 perspective, but the gameplay is so drastically different as to render the connection puzzling.

Note to Ozymandias: Don't take this argument to mean you wouldn't like Max Payne- I doubt you'll be disappointed. If you're into shooters, either that or Halo should easily tide you over until Splinter Cell

Well I blame it on the growing depression (which I blame on high school, but that's another story). But I'm right!

Which, I might add, is a refreshing break from playing Devil's advocate in Social Studies. It's not that I actually support Communist dictatorship, or My Lai, or the draft, don't you idiots understand? It's just you don't get the other side of the issue!

The sad part is that, of course, they also don't understand enough to refute my flawed pro-dictatorship arguments... it makes me cry inside

Want a good game? Personally, I'm old school. I still play Descent 1. On OS 10.3

It's a bit fast, but just turn off pixel doubling and you're good to go!
