a .sit file is as mentioned an archive, this is usually decompressed on a Mac using Stuffit Expander. It comes as part of the Mac OS so when you double click the archive it should launch automatically. If you are running OS9 or before you may be asked to choose what app to decompress with in which case stuffit should be in your list. If it isn't go to www.aladdinsys.com and download the relevent free version for your OS. If you're running OS X, again it should be integrated but do a SW update because v 6.5 which bundles with early OS is shite.
