First of all: plz don't connect to an irc-server if you don't know what IRC is! There are already enough wannabe's there.
Second: Yes, the UplinkIRC-Client is a real client, and you can connect/chat with it.
Try inserting following data (and make sure your internet-connection is online):
Server: irc.uplinkcorp.net
Port: 6667
Channel: #uplink
Nickname: somenick (it must not be in use on this irc-server, or you can't connect. So choose something unique)
Real Name: somenicequote (never enter your real name)
After you hit connect, you'll have to wait!!!
A connection to a IRC-Server will take it's time. You won't see anything, until the connection is ready.
Sometimes you'll even have to wait for 3-5min (depends on server/connection). It helps if you close (not!! disconnect) the irc-client and reopen it later.
BUT: This IRC-Client is not within the Tao of the IRC (real ircler will know what i mean) an thus, like someone said before, get a real client!!! don't wonder if you get booted of a server or even get banned from a channel/server for using this one!
PS: I don't use win9x (get a real OS people) so I don't know if the client works on 98/me etc... (and for god's sake, i don't care)

Never send a human to do a machines job!
Dudes, the reason is won't work on older windows operating systems like windows nt, 2k and xp, is because their kernel and network capabilities are seperately designed based on windows nt.
Have you notices when you download programs or hardware drivers that they have versions for older windows operating systems, and the newer ones?
Thats because hey are totally different.
The IRC only works with the kernel from the time when it was installed, and only on 2k/xp, so if you upgrade your os, or have an earlier version, it won't work.
That guy who said he upgraded from 2k to xp, you should reinstall uplnik and backup your user files to another directory. Unistall all of the registry keys and program file components, then try again.
There is no reason that it doesn't work on xp, it has worked for me.
May I also mention that the IRC program is not compatible with USB networking or USB broadband. IRC can typically work on 56k only, I tested it on 15 computers, and those are the results.
I apologize guys at uplnik, not meaning any offence by contradicting your creation, but I swear its the truth.

The IRC program also works with an irc client installed. I would recommend for advanced users that you set your irc client to automate irc servers in internet explorer.
Because internet explorer is an addition to windows explorer, and commands from uplink will load the irc client. This would make it possible to access the irc server through uplink, but with an external client.

I'm sorry, but I can't stand people spouting mis-information. It just leads to people believing things which are not true and then all kinds of trouble. If you are going to say something make sure it is accurate. Whenever I see someone providing incorrect information I feel I have to say something, less others take the information as correct. :)
