Not the basics, but to actually have a full grasp of C++ with all the related libraries is beyond anyones grasp currently.  :)

Sorry, Stews, but I just like those smileys so much! I hate spam, but I try to help. Can you believe I almost had to have Image for supper? Image

Oops, getting off topic, folks. I wouldn't be surprised if this was spam. I guess Deepsmeg has competition. *heh*

This is getting tedious.

You'll be getting the 'omfgn00b stfu already' stamp burned on your retina soon.

Hey! Just a bit of common sense, but unless you learned where I lived, or the companys come out with VR helmets or something, that's highly unlikely you'll ever meet me face-to-face.

You guys really should try learning C++. Its really useful and everything is programmed in it, Uplink Included. And it takes about 10 minutes to find the code for "Please enter name" and change it. :(

Also, if you search by one name it would have to come up with a list of peoples names with that name and searching through those would take even longer!
I think therefore I am.

Could anyone recommend a good book or tutorial for learning C++?

I've always wanted to learn another language.   Seriously.

Is it neccesary to learn C language before learning C++ ?

Oh and what's the diffrence between visual c++ and "regular" c++?

No you do not need to know C before C++.  Visual C++ is Microsoft's little varient of C++, which a lot of people use, though the difference is not huge.  Learning C++ is fairly easy as far as the sytax and such go, the libraries are what take time, so I would make sure whatever book you get includes the Standard Libraries.  :)

Well there is a website that has tutorials and compilers and everything on it to get you started. http://www.cprogramming.com/

You could also just buy the latest C++ for Dummies, as it has 7 books in one and also has a cd full of tutorials and compilers.

I have never liked the Dummie books, but others do, it is a matter of personal preference.  The book I use is C++: The Complete Reference, 4th Edition.  Although as a first language I would recommend Java, but C++ is probably more useful.  :)

Well I know Visual Basic, and a bit of Pascal, so i'm not new to programming. C++ always looked too intimidating though. Do you think i'll be ok? ;)
