Too bad that they stopped selling the bonus disk. It sounds cool.

Just read around and find out. Because the bonus CDs weren't in enough demand. That's why they quit making them specifically to sell.

And the point of bumping in such an aged topic when everyone essentially had moved on was what exactly?

You know, if you waited 11 more days this thread would have offically been dead and buried for a year.... but nooooo, you just had to come along and dig it up.

Hi, while we're talking about the bonus- and the developers- CD:
1.) Does the latter one contain a linux-running copy of the Uplink-executable? Or would it be more like compiling it from source?

2.) Does the purchase of the latter one allow me to download the full version? (I played the demo and just cannot wait at all...)

3.) Would it not be kind to enable Uplink - customers to download the goodies/bonus-CD as ISO9660-image or otherwise from the website. (since purchases seem to be sticky to the customer-account this would be completely possible)

I didn't buy yet (as I really would like to have point 1 cleared first...)

gz.

1) You can compile a linux executable from source with the devdisk. It might take a bit of work though

2) No. You need to buy a full version of uplink to play. The devdisk only contains the code for uplink, not any of the resources.

3) I think you can download most of the bonus disk stuff (except the Uplink Alpha versions) from the Ambrosia website

dang...

so the original missions are not included on the dev-Cd?

A bit like the (really, really neat) stuff you can get at ID-Soft.

There you are able to download the sources of their engines... (DOOM (I, II, III), QUAKE (I, II, III, 4 is the doom3 engine))
But you need to create your own levels then before you can play...

Is this correct?

btw:
what programming-language is it?
(I'm ok on C/C++ but all else would be another bump in the way...)

Darksun said the resources weren't there i.e the sound and images files. The missions are part of the sourcecode.

foobar4nono wrote:Is this correct?

With the source you could add your own missions and tools if you wanted. However, you have to remember that unlike most games which provide a level editor to create your levels Uplink has the missions as source code since there is no graphical levels to explore (except for LANs although you can create and add your own without needing the DevCD).

ive seen on the uplink website under faqs that you can claim a bonus disc by convincing another person to purchase uplink and sending yours and theirs worldpay numbers i was wondering is this still a valid way of getting the uplink bonus disk here is the page http://www.uplink.co.uk/bonusdisk.html[/quote]
