Rkiver wrote:Depends on what you want. There are mods that add new lans, new gateways, change the graphics, or even new Dev Mods made with the DevCD. Your best bet is to go to Modlink and have a look around.
Rkiver, just to let you know, your link for Modlink is bad. It directs you to ww.modlink.net rather than www.modlink.net. I know you didn't intend to (of course
To answer your question, OutSider, it's all really a matter of personal preference (i.e., if the / in Uplink being an I instead doesn't really bother you, than you don't need to d/l the mod that changes it). But here's what I would recommend (all from Modlink):
Gateways:
tnegA Alpha Gateway (nice and powerful, without being ridiculously so)
Extreme Velocity by Packett (lots of CPU slots, very fast)
ELD-16200 Server Platform by elDiablo (HUGE Gateway, LOTS of available slots for everything, the one Gateway mod I myself have)
Any and/or all Gateways by neott (what can I say? the man makes beautiful Gateways)
And if you really want what is hands down the most ridiculously powerful Gateway EVER (not that it's not still cool
All these can be found here
There are a number of skins available for Uplink here; when it comes to these, go with whatever's most aesthetically pleasing to you. I have Deus Ex, but go with whatever you like. There are also some fun and useful graphics you can add to the game, found here. Finally, check the Other Mods section (here) and the Dev Mods section (here) for additional fixes and fun little goodies for your Uplink escapades. I hope that covers everything!
Thank you, typing to fast sometimes I slip up, as does anyone though. It has been fixed.

I would recommend 'Simply Uplink' too, although its not really a mod, its more of a user-defined patch to make things a bit easier like a file copier that copies the file directly to your databank, and a filter for your world map, things like that..(as usual you need to create a new user to unlock the functions)

Firstly, I apologise for bumping an old thread, but I think it needs answering. If you want to add stuff like that, you'd do well to unzip the .dat files in the uplink folder (except for world.dat) by changing the .dat to a .zip, and extracting. Then you can add something. To my mind, your error is caused by a conflict between data.dat and the data folder, because the data folder doesn't have all the stuff it needs to have.
As another plus, unzipping the folders gives you access to the fonts and music used in the game, for your fun. I used the font in my sig picture, if you hadn't noticed. Yay.
