How do I add security?
What does 'MaxUpgrades' mean?
Are there any other commands not covered in the mods.txt file?

You add securtiy slots to the gateway by increasing the relevant number, though you dont really need more than 2. You add the security itself by buying it in game.
Max Upgrades isnt actually used in the game, and I think mods.txt covers pretty much everything. However, there is a very detailed guide if you have more problems, availible on Modlink in the Uplink Guides section, by PunisherBass.

I am working under  v1.3

The guide at modlink is for v1.2 when you had to perform some modifcations to core code to get gateways running. What I need is the line I add to the text file describing the gateway to add security slots.

I made a gateway with the guide from Punisher Bass, but in the game the thumbnail of my gateway has all its colors screwed up? Now why is that?

The colors for the thumbnail shouldn't distort. Unless you changed the number of colors for the image before saving it. Since the thumbnail image is only a resized image of the gateway.

Here's a bit of help in coding the gateway.

All of that information should be in one or two lines. Now below that you want the heading with all of it's relevant data (x/y coordinates).
