I think the console commands should be altered so that they are more like the real deal cmd. so the same command s that do things in uplink should do the same in real life.

Uplink isn't supposed to be realistic - it is, after all, meant to be a game. The console commands imitate 'real' commands to the extent which they can without being obscure to players.

To follow on with what KingAl wrote, why copy CMD? Why not CSH, TCSH, SH or FTP? Heck, why should it use any of those considering 1) the game is set in the future and 2) the ingame OS doesn't claim to be a Microsoft creation nor a Linux/Unix derivative.

if uplink is not meant to be real, then it isnt based on anything, so there is no control over anything and then the game isnt really about hackers (or crackers).
and hey - who knows if there will be an internet or even a computer in 2010?
Is uplink a guess at roughly what life will be in 3 years or is it for fun? if it is for fun, which i believe it is, then i think you need to include similarities to life now to be able to compare it to now so that it can have a place.
