hey ppl, for those who come 2 this forum every so often wanting something to read even if it is some idiots stupid ideas for a second non existent version of uplink, then i'm your idiot and here they are, i sent roughly this as an email 2 them after finding that server in-game again. this is as it was in the email (i think):

Now assuming that you are still making a second uplink rather than something else, I’ll begin with:

Your Ideas

This section is feedback on the ideas purposed on the introversion software server in uplink.

Mission: Impossible

A cool idea, But only if you do it right. Many a time I find my self looking for a decent top-down game involving a team of people breaking into some building, my vision of what you said was exactly this, sometimes you’re the guy controlling the doors evelators and vaults, and other times you might just be geared up and ready to go, possibly having hacked into the black market and ordering yourself a gun to it with. You’re in the building two people behind you (I said top-down, remember graphics don’t make a good game, the content does, little coloured dots as if being viewed from a radar would suffice, even pretty cool) the first room is unlocked but a guard is there so the hacker of the mission sets off a sprinkler making him go check it out, while they sneak past etc. (sorry got carried away, but you get the picture)

The adrenaline of being told by the hacker you’ve got 15 secs and your on your own I’m being traced and having to escape the building, or perhaps the hacker gets you arrested, you’d pay someone a lot of money to get you out and kill him or destroy his system, maybe hack into a bank and kill his credit cards, so he cant buy the latest tools or maybe he finds himself in the social security server ‘bringing himself back to life’ so to speak. But anyway I’m moving on to a different subject, although a very cool one, with all the features of the game, saving yourself or getting round things will be just as good as doing it to other people as a mission.

Johnny Nnmnmeumonic???!!

Sorry about the spelling, that ones got me stumped, anyway I remember reading that this was something to do with a 3d skyscraper, obviously the need for this would be over come with the M:I building idea, unless it was a representation of a computer system, I don’t see it working though, this one wasn’t a biggie for me, not much I can say about it.

Air Traffic!!

Sounds pretty cool, hacking into the air traffic control, searching for your target and it comes up on the big-map-o-planes, then you take out that guy(Human or Computer player) before he breaks into your building and steals your fileserver.

Bank Robbery

Pretty similar to the M:I idea, it would just be a different mission, and would take place in a bank rather than a company building. Again showing hints of the black market for weapons if you plan to have players hiring players to do this kind of mission for them, otherwise they’re not going to get far through the mission unless they have a good hacker monitoring their progress, and no others interfering at the time. I long for the day when I’m asked in a game by someone half way across the world in America to get ready for %30 of the loot from the biggest bank in the virtual world, owned by someone in Japan perhaps, as long as I can distract the right people open the right doors, and make the right calls without being caught or making the police show up thanks to someone tracing me, leaving me to pay a fine, and perhaps some time in jail with the guys caught by the police in the bank. And then if I am caught, paying to get me and the other guys busted out to try again the next day.

Satellite Weapon

I cant see how this would work, I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, just I don’t se how it could be used other than in missions that are part of the storyline or offered from a board, but not from other players, I guess that’s all I can say for that.

Security Drones

These could be implemented in a number of ways; they could be part of the missions in buildings, if you can afford to use a drone rather than risking agents. Or they could be part of a completely different mission, a new kind you think up, unfortunately I cant remember what you wrote in the game about this idea, so I cant really say much about this either.

Now onto this thingy, I don’t know what to call it, some kind of a list.

The Old

The original was great, but, without wanting to sound too rude, I’ll list a few problems:

· The missions were finished extremely quickly and I found my self with nothing to do

· The modding capability was great, but custom missions and servers weren’t included, so that meant no real reason to carry on playing after completion

· It wasn’t online (you knew it was coming), but I’ll get to this later on, and I’ve gone over this email adding bits, so I might have already gone over it.

· Probably less than 30 minuets into the game, you can hack into a bank, delete all logs, and your all but a ‘grade 1 – terminal’ agent. I know this was just because of the amounts of money looked at in some missions but you should avoid this, the game was much too easy, but remember the other half, it wasn’t much too hard either.

The New

Uplink 2 should have lots of the following:

· It should be a Massively Multiplayer Game, but making people pay monthly for a start scares off people who don’t trust the net that much, and secondly kills an entire audience of interested people who just cant cope with regular spending, and its not like you’d need it, it would be a big mistake to make a subscription fee! Period.

Carrying on with this idea, the email system in the original went to waste, it could be fixed here with exactly the same system but players should be able to own their own system making them ‘admin@Seeg Software.net’ or you could email to a unique ID which could be a fake IP address given to them when they register as an agent for the game.

· Making your own lan is already possible, it should perhaps be built into the second game, and making your own systems should let you customise all the buttons (with the acception of the admin section, although destroying a system was as easy as counting from 1 to 2 in the first uplink) and if you have them from the ideas above, you should be able to create your own companies building, walls and all, best to be top down almost design view, with some flashy looking little bits i.e. in uplink the menu’s slid up from under each other and everything had a nice shade of blue, and the dial-pad was good too.

· You should be able to buy sell and make programs, you could either sell them through part of your server menu automatically like a business (which could be hacked or the stock room in your building could be broken into), or through contacting the owner and asking for a copy for 3000credits.

If your wondering I have no idea how people could create their own programs, but I have thought about it before and it really should be a feature.

· Patches and updates should create new features every so often, i.e. the lights out security system available on modlink, could have been part of a patch, and since its multiplayer, and in the style of a hacking game, you’re gonna have trouble accessing a new server unless you download the latest update for the uplink OS off of the uplink server in-game which should be un-hackable to save problems, its not as if you’d need anything off of there anyway, the server could also have a job/employee board made out of an irc channel, for requests from and for agents, among all the usual things like the mission board from the original for missions that aren’t from players.

· If you take on the Mission: Impossible infiltrate-the-building idea, you should also have a building creator, you’d have to pay for the building and the more money you have the better protected/bigger you can make it, sprinklers to protect it from fire if a bomb is planted by a rival hacker… so many possibilities. While writing this email the idea of that has grown on me a lot, please imagine it as much as you can and let it grow on you.

· Quite clearly from everything I’ve said so far, it would be multiplayer, and you would get and give missions between other players, but if for some reason it wasn’t multiplayer, then you can still use quite a lot of things mentioned, but there would have to be a lot more missions to work through, and perhaps a storyline you have more control over, I never actually got that far in the first one, sometimes because I’d played around in servers that were needed for it to happen, I’m not sure what I did though. I remember fast forwarding for days to get to it. if it was a more clearly stated set of missions I would have preferred it.

Well all that could be it from me because honestly I’m getting tired and was just on a very long phone call so I lost my train of thought.

i know some things like what i said about the mission impossible idea arent so much hacking but every mission is optionable in uplink anyway, and they require hacking to get what you need to do the mission. i'd probably make it myself if a was a little better at designing game graphics.

number1 :)

Very good ideas :) I`ve always loved reading new ideas about Uplink 2 / mmog .

I had also one idea - make a real-time strategy about hacking :) You buy cheap building and rent some hackers...then you`ll attack some other company/hacking or commercial and buy a better building - some scyscrape :) etc...

Nothing's impossible. It's only your knowledge, patience and determination.

Has anyone thought about running uplink online on a p2p basis? your files would be updated every 30 mins or so, from one or more connected computers, to incorperate changes.

@ Jaygee

maybe it could be done but now think you would have to resolve the problem of gameplay and balacing stuff which is not a easy task :S

I think a socket connection (through TCP/IP) is the best choose. Commercial games(Unreal,Quake) and software (IRC,ICQ,MSN) are done in this way.

Security is the biggest problem. It only takes one smacktard to mess with his copy of the game, screwing with the files it's serving, to ruin the game for a large number of people.
