A fellow to help you like when you've been caught, framed or something.
Or maybe Mercenaries to help you in different ways, including Remote Assitance.

You mean other hackers?

Hrm... I could see the idea of hackers with neuromancer ratings similar to yours doing things like erasing your criminal record for you - or maybe you could buy your way out by posting a job on the Uplink BBS.

If getting busted by the government (i.e. arrested) meant the total loss of all your stuff (sends you back to minimum gateway, with no hardware/software) while letting you keep your stats/levels, then having other hackers 'help you get back on your feet' could be a nice idea.

Yeah. It's a bit more 'hacker-culture' like, isn't it? We have hackers who work against each other ('Trace a hacker who recently broke into our systems'), but not who work for each other.

Hrm. Perhaps on an even grander scale... other hackers could trade you passwords for servers in exchange for pieces of software or cash payments. And so on. A 'hacker-to-hacker' BBS in the UISS, as well as the employer->hacker one.

the more respect you get the more hackers look up to you and want to help you. you could get another hacker to watch your back so if you get caught he removes your record and vice verca

Well, what exactly are we talking about here? Either:

1) A modification to the 'you have been caught by the gov't' screen which allows minor offences to be punished by the 'resetting' of your stuff, plus an event (generated on probabilities affected by your rating) to have other agents email you with attached files and credits and stuff?

or

2) A fully functional AI for each NPC such that they'll remember interactions with you, can 'chat' with you via email/message board, and will openly approach you for trading purposes?

One of these options.. has a future. The other.... does not. ;)

Great! When do you reckon you can start coding it, then? :P

(Hmm... I wonder if anyone's tried to integrate Daisy or Alice into a game before...)

You could design missions where other NPCs perform different tasks, e.g. they shut down various security systems, leaving you to steal the files. I don't see much point in it though

an Uplink MMORPG

Postby Compgeek79 » Mon Apr 12, 2004 6:52 am

This would make Uplink an Awesome MMORPG, you hack other people, and help coordinate with other hackers to attack systems, people who got really good could group together and form a company or something and hire other hackers to do jobs for them.

of course this probably would take more than a DevCD...
Remember that whatever you do in life, there is always someone who can kick your ass.
