The point was that VB does absolutely nothing that cannot be done - and done better - in Delphi/C++/other languages. Delphi can handle RAD just as efficiently as VB, and boasts a faster execution time.

VB was included in the VS pack because it has a large following of people too stupid or stubborn to switch to better languages. A large number of followers means more $$ for Microsoft.

So can MFC. So can J++. So can straight Win32 API. So can HTML. So can XUL. What's your point?

It is *WAY* easier to create programs for companies and stuff in VB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a massive generalisation if I've ever heard one. What if the company wants a realtime interactive simulation?

Your attitude and near-total lack of any justification for your demand that we shouldn't "diss" VB only demonstrates that you don't know enough about the subject.

Oh, and posts like your last one will only serve to get you banned, or this thread closed. Which would irritate me, because it could have been discussing the design issues inherent in making Uplink a multiplayer game.

Jackmn: I don't think your assertion that "Delphi can handle RAD just as efficiently as VB," can ever really be tested; as such, we're getting into the realm of opinion rather than fact. And of course, opinions cannot be right or wrong.

In reality, it wouldn't be much fun unless it got WAY harder. People would be out of the game in 30 seconds or less with how easy the game is now...

Right. All you have to do is arrest them, and bingo, they're out. We need newbie protection or something.

Either that, or remove the ability to arrest people. It'd just be a loss of one type of mission.

But there would have to be a way to get someone traced, otherwise the game never ends unless the person is stupid enough to leave the logs behind.

Maybe the companies send out emails whenever there's hacker activity, and search your whole home on a certain date, yada yada yada. You'd have to delete all suspicious links and software before the date comes, then the company doesn't find something suspicious. If you forgot about it, you get arrested because the companies found hacker evidence.

VB has its uses, its quick and easy to program, but it is certainly not the language for anything substantial or for long term use.  Most real programmers will choose whatever the best language is for the task at hand.  Sticking stubbornly to a single language is silly whatever the language is (even C or C++).  :)

My point was that Delphi offers everything VB does -and then some- at nearly ten times the speed for some operations =)

Right Maniak. The game needs to way harder, but it'll
come naturaly I think.
Because there have to be separation between Sever
and the Client application. The game is only easy today
because you can cheat(in diffrent was I'm not getting
into here). I think that the entiere user file should be
on the Server. And the Client would only recive a Copy
it should store in Mem.

I give it's a Big(if not Huge) Project, but it can be done
and done Safe too.

But it should deffently not be coded in VB
but Pascal or C++ would be my choice (if I could code
in Pascal)

here's an idea:

You need to frame in order for it to stick to record (evidence server, kinda like the FBI server) and a tracker to detrimine if you are being framed. Also, need more than 2 convictions, else, too easy

In my spare time I accualy does some game designing
(among other things) and I've stated a structure to
Uplink Online. Where I've splitt the Game into three
sections, A Main server, a "ClientServer", and The Client.

what the different part does, I'll tell when I get some
what further into it, and after I get the DevCD, so I can
see how to splitt the code, and where to write additions.

I give, this will take very long time. I intend to do it even
though.
