It *is* possible, and it is in fact fairly easy. But when you consider the amount of effort involved it makes you wonder if it's worth it.
(Incidentally, I am not pushing sexual stereotypes here. I've been involved in similar projects and all this is based on actual evidence)
For one, it is a genuine rule that women are less inclined to be a part of any videogame project. As staff of a small gaming site with a remarkably popular voice-acting division, I can tell you that finding female voice actors is much more difficult than finding male voice actors. We have 11 male members and only 6 female members, and the female members proved to be so popular and in so much demand that we had to withold their personal e-mail addresses, due to the sheer volume of e-mail they were each receiving.
Now, if there had been women in Uplink, their voices wouldn't be in the game (Well, they might...) but their photos. And you can find a lot of things about people with just their photo on hand.
Let's be fair, women are more sensible. If you go up to the average man on the street with a camera and say "hey, mind if I take your picture for this videogame I'm working on" he would most likely say "yes." A woman is more likely to refuse because they are more likely to ask questions such as "who is going to see my face in this game?" and the answer to that is "no one knows."
Chris and co probably did try and persuade some of their female friends to sit in front of the big blue sheet in the corner of their flat, and after many attempts they figured out that it was far easier to get ten men to commit than it is for one woman.
Women are, as a rule, far more sensible and cautious. This might seem laughable if the fear was unfounded, but unfortunately it isn't.
But then again who knows what will happen now that Introversion is fairly established. Perhaps Chris and the team will have more luck with Uplink 2.
And I am sorry if I have offended anyone, believe me it was not my intention.

Iahmel demands females!
Its not hard to take pictures of women I'm sure. If you can walk down the street and pay a woman for sex, I'm sure you could walk down a street and pay for a harmless photo of a face. Lets face it, women love money. The only thing they love more than money is EASY money. I don't think I know a woman that wouldn't take 10 dollars for having a picture of her face taken...

Forced to aggree with Iahmel. Look at all the porn on the web. I'm sure that there's plenty of naked men pict's but there's probally 10x more of naked women. Now if so women are willing to get there pictures taken naked, to be seen my millions of men with only one hand on the keyboard, I can't believe that it's that difficult to find one's willing to do a fully clothed headshot for a game.
We are all the same part of one human family.

Hey! Naked girls are so popular on the web, cecause of men!!! Girls dont's want to (mostly) watch naked men, but men like to watch naked womens. So there's no need to male porn photos. This is not sexuality, but economy!!! =)
