Well...

You could start by installing the latest patch, v1.48, Here and see if that helps.

What were you doing when Uplink crashed? Does it always crash at the same spot? If so, what spot does it always crash at?

Also, if you could not answer "yes" to all of those questions above... Does Uplink crash at random times?

Last but not least, could you post the part that shows the crashing from your debug log file? It is found in your Uplink directory .../users/debug.txt

1.31 is the latest Linux version.

For the debug log, it could be somewhere like ~/.uplink/users/debug.txt

There is some additional command line options in the readme.txt
