Linux Version

Postby Zetas » Mon Aug 21, 2006 6:40 pm

Hey guys, I did a search on this topic, but it seems i'm the only one to have this issue...

I bought the game (UHE) from fileplanets direct2drive site for $19.99 however, it only came with the windows installer (msi) and the manuals and all that, no linux version...

I'm playing it in windows now, but thats only because i happened to have a windows sandbox setup in vmware on my fc4 box. Is there any way i can get the linux version of this game from somwhere? i can verify that i bought the game with the manual codes (if thats sufficient) although they may be freely available on the internet lol. (the codes that is).

I can solve this problem if someone knows of an easy way to backup the user file automatically in windows, i want to run this on linux so i can set a cron to back it up every 10 minutes or so while im playing, something similar on windows would be awesome.

I've been playing this game for the past week or 2 with no knowledge of this forum, or the online game guide i just read... so needless to say, ive lost countless credits and time restarting accounts because i keep getting caught, almost to the point of not wanting to play anymore heh. This backup is neccesary for me, i dont like not being able to save my game.

If anyone has any info, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Agent Zetas :P

In regards to user backups. Can't you just manually copy and paste your .usr file to a different directory every 10 minutes?
Uplink help: Check out the Guide or FAQ.
Latest Uplink patch is v1.55.

hmmm, I guess you could make a Scheduled Task that start a batch file containning a xcopy (there is a way in the advanced options to start a task every X minutes). The only problem would be that it would always run, if you play Uplink or not.

As for playing on linux, perhaps you could try the latest linux patch and see if it works.

Yes, im lazy in this manner, besides when i get "into" the game 30 minutes can pass that feel like 5.

Thanks for the tip.. i'll have to wait till i get home to try this, but the windows installer was around 30mb the linux patch is just over 1mb... I'm not sure it will work lol, but ill try anything at this point.

I guess there's no chance of getting IV or another member to send me the linux version :(

What is important are the resource files (which should be the same between the windows and linux version). After that you probably only need the elf binary Uplink file.
