Uplink - Global Communication Screen Lag

Hey

First of all, thanks for taking the time to help me, I appreciate it.

Specs:
AMD Phenom II X4 970 ~3.5GHz
8192MB DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD5870
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Game Version:
Uplink (non-Steam) 1.55 Patch

When I open the Global Communications Screen (World Map) I start to Lag, the Cursor moves fine but the text when I Highlight something pops up slow, clicking on Connection is slow and it's very irritating.

I would say the whole game drops to around 5 FPS, but as soon as I close the World Map, it's gone and the game resumes at 60+ FPS, but, again, as soon as I open it, it drops to around 5 FPS again.

This problem only occurs when I play at higher Resolutions, such as when I play at my native Resolution, 1920x1200.

I have tried running in Compatability Mode for Windows XP & 2000, I've tried running as Administrator, I've tried Disabling API Scaling, and I've tried Disabling Visual Themes and Desktop Composition, I even tried all of them at once, and it still didn't fix it.

So, basically, I'm wondering if anyone knows the problem and how to fix it?

Anyhow, thanks for taking your time to help me.

EDIT: I forgot to say, if anyone needs more information, feel free to ask.

Thank you.

That's weird. The game is so minimal, it should work for your specs flawlessly... Did you install any mods or addons for the game?

Where did you buy Uplink from?

I haven't installed any Mods or Addons.

I got it from D2D but it wasn't working so I got a copy off a Torrent site and that is working, apart from the World Map lagging.

What I was thinking about doing is downloading Onlink, I heard it was a Mod that just tweaks the game slightly, so I might try that, see if that fixes it, that or an FBI Mod but I kinda wanted to play the normal Uplink, so I'm still gonna look for a fix first.

I might be wrong, but I doubt anyone here will help you if you use a torrented version, regardless of reason. We will gladly help you get the D2D one working though!

I have payed for the game, I just downloaded one from a Torrent due to the one I bought not working, I didn't get a refund, thus, they kept the money.

Nothing was stolen, they didn't lose money, so I don't see why someone wouldn't help.

The lag may be because of who-knos-what is in that torrent. Try copying everything except the exe from the D2D download to the working one.
