Demo fun in Linux

Downloaded the linux demo from the patch thread a few minutes ago and installed it.
Installation had no problems (installing to ~/uplink-demo).
On a quadcore 64 bit box running Fedora 11 w/8GB ram, the damn thing obstinately refuses to run - segfaults each and every time. 32 bit versions of libgtk and libglu are definitely installed (managed to get another game working with them), but not an Uplink-specific debug long to be found on the box, even after the failures below.
It's at least as plain as the nose on my face that I've missed something - but what?
