Introversion

When I start Uplink, the computer makes this sound. The same sound typically heard when you disconnect a USB device from your computer (like 'dum-DUM'). And while the game is running, it continues to make the sound at random times. I can't exactly replicate when the sound is made but it's really annoying. Any suggestions?

No immediate suggestions come to mind, but it would probably help others if you say which version of Windows you are using.
Two more questions: Do you have any USB devices connected to the computer?
Do any other games do this?

Only this game. This is Windows XP Home. I went into Windows Sounds and switched the 'dum-DUM' sound with something more obvious, the 'tada' one and sure enough, on startup and on shutdown, the comp goes 'tada'. I have a USB wireless device plugged into the back but the sounds are being linked up to the game. When I open the program and click 'proceed' to login with my username, 'tada!' and when I shutdown, the same thing.

Ok let's start with the usual:

Version of Uplink?
Location of purchase: Download, Introversion Store, Strategy First, etc etc.
Any mods installed?

It's Version 1.3. I downloaded it. And I have a modded gateway from the Modlink website. It was making those noises before I got downloaded the new gateway.

The latest version is 1.55. Try installing the latest patch.
