usr copying help

while i was playing Uplink i was getting ready to hack bank accounts so i wanted to back up my save but once i copied the usr file and tried to log back onto my account i got an error message and when i went into my user directory a new file under was created with my same user name but it was usr.d is there anyway to fix this i still have the original copied usr in another spot and its way more hours of game time than i want to repeat?
