i've installed the HE version of the game using the instructions located here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... ost3396009

i know there have been a few issues with the HE version but it seems to install properly but wont run as shown below:

Code: Select all

/home/user> uplink
/usr/local/games/uplink
/usr/local/bin/uplink: line 44: 13338 Segmentation fault      $here/lib/uplink.bin.x86 "$@"
/home/user>

anyone know of a way to remedy this?

system specs
machine: Asus EeePC
os: xandros linux
cpu: 900mhz
ram: 1gb

thanks

What version of the game is it? 1.31? 1.55? And when you say HE version, the one from Strategy First is it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Introversion provides support for the Hacker Elite version of the game.

I don't know the difference though, to be honest. I haven't tried Hacker Elite.

That patch doesn't work with the Strategy First version as they changed some things. Also Strategy First is selling Uplink illegally and as such is not supported by Introversion. I would advise you get your money back and purchase the Introversion version.

all i know is that the game works completely fine in windows... but i've recently switched to an open source OS and just want to get it working... it would really be a shame to have to purchase the game for a second time even though my original copy is still valid.

does anyone know if SF will refund if you own the game in its original package? since i bought it about 2 years ago i lack the "proof of purchase".

1) Edit key, you don't have to double post.

2) Technically no, your version is not valid due to the circumstances surround Uplink, Strategy First, and Introversion.

3) Considering how Strategy First treat their clients like Introversion I doubt they will entertain the thought of a refund, especially as it's over 2 years.
