Unable to launch (Ubuntu/Linux)

Postby Nzambi » Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:15 pm

Greetings,

I previously used Uplink on my Mac laptop with no issues (other than general responsiveness becoming slower and slower as the game progressed, that is), but today bought and downloaded a new copy for my Ubuntu 7.04-running desktop computer.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. When I attempt to launch the downloaded file, I am given the following notification:

Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing Uplink complete 1.54DOWNLOAD............................................................................................
/home/user/.setup6033: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I downloaded the demo, and receive the same error. While I am fairly new to Linux, I'm fairly certain that the libraries in question are actually installed. For the sake of being able to actually play the game, I'm hoping that I'm just doing something wrong. ;-)

If anyone has any ideas or solutions, I would be greatly appreciative.

You probably have GTK2 installed but not GTK1. Try the following:

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude install libgtk1.2

and then try the installer again, and hopefully you'll have more luck :)
Here is my signature. Make of it what you will.

 That was simple enough.

I had though I had installed GTK1.2 libraries through the Synaptic Package Manager (having selected the seemingly applicable ones), but that hadn't helped. This did.

Many thanks!
