Resolution issue & question in Win XP

Postby malkor » Sun Jul 08, 2007 4:36 am

I had an issue with the screen resolutions in the demo, yesterday. I have a tiny monitor and so I wanted to change the resolution to 800 x 600. I checked my monitor's freq at that resolution (which was 60) and went into video and changed the settings to "800 x 600" @ "60".
When I got back in, all text on the page was flashing in and out and, when I tried to go back into the options, the screen just went black. I couldn't recover without reinstalling the demo.
I liked it enough to hit STEAM and buy the game outright, however. Good stuff. Anyway, here are my questions. Since I installed the latest version of Upload today, didn't it update my OpenGL drivers? (I saw this mentioned as a possible problem in another post). Also, is there a settings _file_ that I could edit to recover back to 1024 x 768 if 800 x 600 hacks out again? If I just have to live with it at the higher resolution - and smaller text size - I will: I'll buy a bigger damn monitor if necessary to make it readable but, given the fantastic work Introversion did on the rest of this, I'm have faith that I won't have to.

I can't say much about your initial issue with changing resolution, aside from checking if you were using the latest version of the demo and had updated your video card drivers (from the manufacturer's site).

With respect to resolution settings, I believe they are held in the 'options' file within the users folder in the Uplink directory - which is probably either 'C:\Program Files\Uplink\users' or something very similar within the Uplink steam directory, found in 'C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\*'. Most likely, if you delete this options file it will resume with default settings.
