FIXED: Application failed initialize properly (0xc0000005)

Postby kxmode » Sat May 26, 2007 5:46 am

Played the Uplink demo and loved it. I purchased it last night. Today this error constantly occurs.

I've tried countless times to uninstall and reinstall. The only thing that I think might be the culprit is this error happened after I uninstalled the demo. I didn't need it because I had the full version.

Anyhow I'm so frustrated and I don't know what to do. Please help. :(

Do you have the very latest patch i.e. version 1.55? The Latest Patch forum is linked to in my signature below.

Yes.

Also tried to put the opengl32.dll file.

Also tried deleting the options files in uplink folder.

Nothing is working

Hmmm. Well, the error type (0xc0000005) is a memory access violation, which essentially means it's using more memory than it has asked to use (I believe). This is probably because it's reading a faulty file. Do you have any agent saves in the folder, and if so have you tried removing them? Or, indeed, do you have any files that a fresh install of Uplink wouldn't normally contain?

Also, is there a file called errorlog.txt in your Uplink folder, and if so would you mind posting it up?

No. This is a fresh install to another folder (Uplink1)

(directory listing removed by Kxmode)

Other than the updates I don't think so.

Nope.

I presume you've got the latest sound and graphics drivers?
Beyond that, I don't have much else I can suggest, though frenchfrog might be able to help later on.

EDIT: I'm fairly sure there should be newer Nvidia drivers than your DxDiag reports available now.

EDIT 2: NVidia drivers. Soundblaster drivers.

EDIT 3: Well, good to see it's been solved.

Weird. I tried rebooting my computer and that fixed the problem. Perhaps I had some app that was using the memory space Uplink needed? I don't know. Oh wells... it's working! :)
