BUG: no graphics

Postby darkblackcorner » Tue Feb 06, 2007 5:29 pm

Basically when I load Uplink i can hear sound, so I know the game is working, but all I see is an artifact of part of my desktop. When I move the window the artifacts just go over each other. I've tried changing the screen depth, refresh rate etc, but nothing seems to work, even with the latest patch. I know the game should work, as I've had it on here before...I just can't remember how I fixed this problem!
Anyway, I hope someone can help...

Do you use WindowsBlinds or some other widget program? If so, add Uplink to its exceptions list
Uplink help: Check out the Guide or FAQ.
Latest Uplink patch is v1.55.

No, I don't have windows blinds, so that wouldn't be the reason....any other suggestions?

Update your video drivers, worse case run Uplink in software rendering mode by putting this opengl32.dll file in your Uplink directory.

Ok, the drivers are all reinstalled, and I manage to get the game working, at least to start with. My problem now is that the large map during registration is distorted, and the game then freezes and crashes. Also the windows mouse hovers over the uplink one. Is there something else I should be doing?

Yes, the other thing I did try of course was to try to update the drivers, but no further updates are available other than the drivers I already have. The opengl32.dll file also has no effect, even when swapping the older one (that came with the installation), for the newer one. :(

What OS version, uplink version, video card / chipset are you using?

Are you using a dual monitor setup? I've had to disable my second monitor in the past to get the game to start...

Also, be sure to run the latest patch (see my signature)

Already run the patch, so I'm using the latest version.
I'm also using windows 98SE, and the graphics card is an ATI Rage 128, and I don't use a second monitor. Is there anything else that might help?

The last resort is normally to try the opengl32.dll trick, updating your directx and perhaps downgrading to 1.31 are the only options I can think of.

I've tried it both with and without opengl, my directX is at version 9, and there are no newer drivers for my graphics card. I'll try downgrading uplink though, and let you know how it goes.

EDIT:
Nope, the downgrade didn't work either :( I might be getting a new computer soon anyway, so that'll solve the problem.
Thanks for your help though, much appreciated :)
