No space for Hardware Drivers

Postby offsides » Fri Oct 20, 2006 12:35 am

I'll prefice this by saying that I'm still running on 1.31 because of the Linux font issue, but I haven't seen that this issue has ever been addressed.

I recently bought a Motion Sensor and Gateway Nuke, but at the time I had no room in my memory banks (which I bought shortly thereafter). However, because of that the hardware was installed successfully but not the software to run it. I was able to get ONE of the 2 drivers by guying a third piece of security, but since there's no way to remove security from your Gateway, I couldn't get the driver for the other. It would be real nice if the Hardware Drivers were available for purchase real cheap in the Software section but didn't actually work unless you had the proper hardware. Alternatively, the hardware installation should fail since you have no room for the software (like what happens if you buy too many memory banks).

I'd hate to waste my hard stolen money :)

Thanks!

I've been thinking. The is probably a way, by editing the .usr file, but I have no idea what you'd have to edit.

It would be pretty hard to edit. Since hardware upgrade are a list, not just a integer to modify.

Also, since ~1.49 saved games have a checksum which permit the detection of corrupted saved game and loading of the backup. The draw back is that it render .usr file editing much harder (at least until a new redshirt encryption/decryption utility is available).
