Misbehaving Music (1.48 download v.)

Postby Cyberwarrior » Sat Oct 07, 2006 1:05 am

After having a copy of Uplink from one of the various unauthorised sellers & accidentally formatting it into oblivion (the klutz that I am), I decided to order it (and the CD version) from IV (a few minutes ago, actually). But something is bugging me about the download version.

It seems to be using up a lot of CPU, even causing trouble for itself! The music tends to skip occasionally, a problem I didn't have in my previous version.

Both FreeMeter and TaskManager report Uplink as using 70-90% of the CPU, which not only slows things down but seems to kick itself because of music problems.

Anyone have any advice for dealing with this? :)

I suppose I should mention that I'm using Win XP, SP2. Turning off animated icons seemed to have helped a little, as did running in windowed mode.

I would say update you sound driver.

Any what are your detailled computer spec?

(The music engine changed between 1.31 and the latest beta patches, the old one was causing crashes to SB Audigy 2 owners)

Hmmm, I'll try that then.

Taking from dxdiag...

2.66ghz P4 CPU
2046mb (2gb) RAM
nVidia 6600GT 256mb Graphics
Creative Sound Blaster PCI

Unfortunately I can't get any more precise than that in terms of sound card info. I should probably buy a new soundcard at some point.
