possible LAN bug in v1.37

Postby lurker_79 » Wed Aug 23, 2006 12:15 am

I am not sure this is a bug; maybe I am not creative enough to hack this LAN. (See picture below)

As one can see, three locks protect the main server. I cannot connect to those locks; in fact, I am unable to make my path indicator reach any one of the locks. The picture shows the farthest I got. The same is true for the main server (can’t connect, can’t make path indicator reach it). I hacked every terminal in the LAN and found no modem numbers or other hints how to continue.
In case this is not a bug, any pointers on how to successfully complete this LAN would be appreciated.

buggy LAN?

Use LAN Force on the locks.

Can you believe I never played any LAN missions? I tried one, one time and gave up... Its become a habit to skip them all now. :?

So you've never completed Uplink since LANs were introduced?

Hacking LANs is my favourite part of Uplink, although I prefer the ones you can do without using LAN Force.

I wasn't aware Uplink generated/used LANs than required LAN_Force. I always thought there was a valid path that allowed not being detected until the final stage. Unless ofcourse you happen to be talking out mod LANs of which I've tried none so don't know what tricks people have created.

There are. Such as the LAN in the screenshot in the original post.
There's nothing on the other side of the locks, and you can't open them by cracking a terminal, HOWEVER, you have to disable them because they're guarding the Main Server, as seen in the screenshot.

I've had a lan where the locks guarding the main server weren't unlockable by anything, and none of the terminals had a modem number, so unless I missed something LAN force was a necessity.

I've got such a LAN too, where I had to use LAN force as the last authentication serrver is unreachable, there are no modems at all on the lan and he machine that's supposed to contain the modem info doesn't have anything. It says: "local dialup number: Uninitialised" ...

Now I wouldn't care if it weren't the ARC infiltration mission :(
Copying the files is possible, hiding from ARC is not. No matter how many bounces I have used and how much I've cleaned my logs I got caught. And not even the motion sensor helped.

(I'm a first time player, therefore I might have missed something subtle)

Is your agent was created in version 1.42 of Uplink? (I'm asking because this was present on agent creation between 1.31x and something like 1.37)
