Probably this problem was posted before, but I didn't find anything with that magic search button...

The game works well for around 5-15 seconds, but then it runs very slow (the music doesn't sound good neighter), than it works well again, and so on... It has times when it works very well, and it has times when I just can't move my mouse...
I have the same problem with the demo, v1.00, and v1.31.
I also tried to delete the opengl32 file, to change the resolution, but there's no difference. There are no other programs in memory (at least as c-a-del shows), and my WinME was cleanly reinstalled a week ago.
Comp specs: AMD K6-2, 500MHz, 256MbRAM, GForce 2 (32 Mb).

If anyone had any problem like this before, please tell me...

1) What video card and sound card do you have?

2) do you have the lastest drivers for these?

3) you could run spybot to check if your computer have anyway unwanted programs running (http://security.kolla.de/)

4) disable your anti-virus, if you got one, to see if it helps

5) do you have the ms task scheduler running?

1) GeForce 2 MX64 (32MbRAM) and a Sound Blaster.
2) Yes. (They're called detonators)
3) I don't have that spybot, but I tried several other task managers... nothing.
4) Like I said, there's no other program running.
5) No.

Other games, 3D and 2D, opengl (which works best on my video card) and Direct3D, all work very good...
And like I said, it has times when Uplink runs very well.
Nothing suspicious in the game log (except a lot of profile saving).

task managers won't do the thing, they're not capable enough of checking bots. use a special spybot checker and remover such as Search and Destroy, it's free and will eliminate any spybots ruining your system. if your version of opengl is working well, try deleting opengl32.dll from the uplink folder under Program Files.

Try to change color depth to 16bit - this may help you.

Also, Uplink may work slow if it have crashed and then you ran it again. So it's better to reboot your computer if this happens.
Sorry for my terrible English. =)
