So, I've searched the forum, looked around some of the other helpful fan sites, and it appears that this is just a known problem?  I just wanted to ask and be sure though...   I would really like to find some way to make the sounds keep playing, but no reinstalls have any effect.

What problem? Have I missed something? (Your topic only says "Sound Bug/Issue"...)

What system are you running Uplink on (MS-Windows, Linux, MacOS)? Have you patched the game to version 1.31? What exactly is the problem (no sound at all, garbled sound, ...)?

Yeah, fair enough...

Let's see, sound effects cut out after about 3 minutes.  Background music continues to play.  I am updated on drivers and to 1.31.   I'm running XP Pro.  I had seen other people post the same problem, so I thought it was a pretty well known issue, and I haven't seen anyone post saying they fixed it.

Hm, I had some problems with sound on Linux, but that's a different problem from yours... I'm not exactly sure on how Uplink does sound on Windows (I guess they're using the SDL lib there, too).
If other applications run fine with sound, then I don't know how to fix it. Though with the developer CD (source code of Uplink) hopefully coming out this month, someone might make a patch for that problem...
