The infamous "Bank Bug" or "Fine Bug"

I was just curious to know if anyone has discovered a work-around for the infamous "Fine bug..." The one where you're told to pay a fine, and you do, but the game refuses to acknowledge that.

Answers to common questions around here:

-Yes, I did a search.
-Yes, I tried the normal things, like attempting to pay the fine with the overdrawn account, then attempting to pay the fine with a DIFFERENT account. I tried paying more than 500, I tried paying less than 500, and I tried paying exactly 500.

My sob story goes that I was on the storyline mission for the "bad" guys, because I know what the ending is (accidentally found it on GameFAQs.com), and I wanted to see it.

I'd hate to lose hours of time working on the bloody gateway and software and everything, but if no one's found a solution to this little issue yet, so it goes.

unfortunately, i've also heard about your problem from some other poor souls around here, and even the vets won't be able to give you much of an explanation for that (it's a bit of a known bug), except start a new user. just hope the bug will be fixed when the Dev CD comes out and everyone works on fixing these critters.
