Today I tried to run Uplink on a Redhat 9 box. The game starts, but the only thing I see is a square with a cross in it and half a square below it and I can hear the sound. After a while my X-Server crashes. Any hint?
Thanks

Hm, works fine on my system (RedHat 9, too).
Did you apply the 1.31 patch for the game? (It's available on the official web site...)

Or look at your ~/.uplink/debug.log file, it might contain some further information on problems the game encountered.
Maybe something is wrong with your graphics driver, what graphics chip do you use (Nvidia, ATI, ...)?

You might also check the readme files, I think there's some command line options to run the game in "safe video mode"... Maybe that works...

Thanks for the hints. I managed to run it now: some files were readable by the owner (root) only - awkward ;)
