Stuck in Shiny Hammer

Hi all,

As the subject suggests, Im having an unprecedented issue with this mission that i cannot find anywhere else on the forum. Basically it goes:

I have gone through the complicated LAN and got to a modem. I connect to that modem and it eventually leads me to another modem. I connect to the second modem and all i can see connected to that modem is the main server. I ran all probes and scans in everything possible but all i see if the modem connecting to that single main server. Now this seems easy? Not really.

As soon as i access the server, the sys admin comes in, and I will be cut off in less than a minute, or maybe 30 seconds. Since there is absolutely no obstacle in between the admin and me.

I know, this mission is randomly generated, so that is why im posting it up here. Also to mention all the modems are of course, in the same LAN. So from the final modem i got access to, u can see other parts of the LAN but i cannot access them.

So if i want to finish the mission and delete everything on the server, i need at least a few minutes, and with sys admin 1 step away from me, its impossible.

Any ideas how to bypass this? maybe find the IP of the actual server? Or spoof something? Thankx in advance.

I even tried to frame the man for some kind of murder and shoplifting and got him arrested. Even i hacked a system and changed my IP to his, this did not stop him logging on.

It may seem impossible but I assure you it's not. Here are some general Main Server LAN tips that will help you get the job done:

1. Don't try to do everything in one hack. Repeatedly hack the Main Server, deleting one or two files at a time using file_deleter.
2. Don't try deleting the files via the console as there is a bug which means if you get kicked before the command completes the files won't be deleted.
3. Play hide and seek on the LAN with the admin. Navigate around the LAN ensuring his trail (red) never meets yours (white). As long as you don't connect to other nodes you should remain connected to the Main Server but positioned elsewhere on the LAN. Just flick between LAN_view and Main Server.
4. Hack the voice authentication and password then immediately disconnect without entering the system. This should mean both are disabled when you reconnect.

Any ideas how to bypass this?

Not possible.

Or spoof something?

LAN_spoof is only used on terminals acting as subnets of Controller nodes.

I'm guessing you were searching for the wrong thing. Your problem is not with the mission itself but the randomly generated LAN associated with the mission. A search of LAN problems should have churned up many results. In fact, you would have found answers within the top 10 topics of this section of the forums. I'm not having a go at you, just making you aware.

Thanks buddy, I just did again and again and after who know how long i finally deleted all the files on that server. But! When i go back and tell ARC i have done the mission, they say the mission was not completed. I went back to check and found not even a single file on that main server. I deleted not only the faith files but others too.

Even more bizzare, just days later(in the game) i got my next mission from ARC, they are telling me to spread the virus. So it seems i passed the shiny hammer without passing it! So weird, but anyway, i can at least end the game now.

Now i have used my backup files so i can try the shiny hammer again. This time, it's exactly the same thing. I deleted all the files on the main server and shut it down. I reply to the mission and they say i hav not completed it! Why is this?

Does it say you didn't complete it or that you failed to do it? Could you post a screenshot of the reply email. You can upload images to Imageshack.

Also, it's generally considered bad netiquette to double post, particularly when a forum provides edit and delete functionality. If you realise you forgot a point in a post, add it with the edit button, possibly prefixing it with "Edit: ".

Hi Sorry for slight necromancy here but I noticed this thread while i was searching for the solution to a problem.

I have got stuck in shiny hammer mission. I located the main server on the Arunmor network I have deleted files and logs and sys folders in the usual way and then shutdown before getting kicked of the network and yet when i reply to the email to say job done i get a failed mission email

I have also tried uploading and running the revelation virus to it and again still no sucess.

This is the email i get back.

I didn't see any other possible servers to knock out. (unless there is a way to kill an authentication server or a terminal

Is that the email from the first attempt or the second attempt? Was the second attempt carried out after replying to the email of the first attempt or did you revert to a saved file? If you replied to the email after the first attempt then tried the second method then the second attempt will be ignored since you technically completed the mission, but you should have used Revelation in the first place to cause the most damage.

I have figured out a way to fix this problem, and that is, ABANDON the ARC mission if it says "Congratulations" but still thinks it's not complete.
It will remove it from the list, and you'll receive Mission 5 soonafter.
