When you got the HUD_Connection_Analysis, a new icon should have been added to the row of icons at the bottom. It should look like (if I recall correctly) two computers connected to each other with a wire. Click on that to bring up the Connection Analysis display. Then, run a bypasser, and drop it onto the correct firewall/monitor/proxy icon. The red light should turn green, indicating that the bypassed service is, in fact, being bypassed.

Bypassing the monitor can block the notification of security being cracked completely. The Elliptic-Curve Encryption Cypher and Voice Print Identification are never detected even after you've hacked them. ID Verification hacking is NOT detected within LANs (subsystems, you get a trace in the Main Server anyway), on a bank or when hacking the readwrite or readonly accounts.
Take note that the Monitor, when not bypassed, can detect a Proxy or Firewall when it's bypassed.
Since 2004 I've my own Uplink txt guide. I tried to differ it from the UUG. FInd it on GameFAQs' Uplink FAQ page (going to revise it during the christmas holiday).

No, just don't get caught doing it.
