If you don't have a user file then you don't have a user...Of course I believe it is only saved after you stop playing the user (exit gateway) the first time, but I'm not certain.

'users' Uplink sub-directory.

If you are playing the Steam version check in [your Steam installation path]\steamapps\common\uplink\users\

Linux check ~/.uplink/

C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Uplink\users

If you are using the windows version.
If you dont have a user folder try reinstalling the game?
If you need, ill send you a .usr, options, so you can just have a profile without reinstalling.

The account has 2,000,000,000c with the registered skill (my custom gateway testing account) :/

Is there any way that you can open and modify the options.usr in order to change the amount of money that you can start with?

EDIT: or any other file for that matter?

I'm fairly certain that the amount of credit you start with is hard coded. Search for 'redshirt' if you want to alter save files - but ultimately it's a bit of a cop-out, considering how easy it is to get money once you can hack banks (and because you can always fall back on pre-mission payments if you don't have enough money).

the problem is that it takes forever for me to do missions ang upgrade my systems enough to start robbing banks, it takes aproximately 10 hours or more of play time, then on my first attempt i get caught and have to start all over again.

dont start whining, im not asking for bank hacking strategy, i know how to do it, im just not good at it.

One thing i would like to know though, is it possible to actually save a game so that if i get caught i can go back to where i was before i attempted the bank hack? cause ive had to restart the game about 27 times now, and im getting rather pissed off.

Sure, it's easy to back up. Just go to your Uplink directory - probably either C:\Program Files\Uplink or C:\Program Files\Steam\etc.\etc.\ad\infinitum
(the latter only if you bought it via Steam, obviously) - then go to the 'users' subdirectory, find the files with the name of your agent, and then copy them to somewhere safe - possibly a 'backup' subfolder.

Also, my guess is that you're being caught by passive traces. Make sure you're quick to delete your logs, particularly if you're hacking banks, or you might delete them too late.

No Users directory

Postby Toobis » Tue Apr 15, 2008 10:40 am

I'm looking through my C:\Program Files\Uplink directory, and there's no Users directory. I did a search for anything with usr or user in it, and nothing came up, not even a file extension. How can I backup my game, so I don't have to start over when I get busted?

What OS are you running?
Is it the Steam version, or the Introversion store one?

If you have Vista the save data may be elsewhere, but I can't remember where.
