Fast-Forwarding Time to Find Jobs

Postby mcc36 » Mon May 29, 2006 6:12 pm

I just bought Uplink about an hour ago, downloaded it, and was playing it very happily until now. I was told by the tutorial that if there were no jobs, to fast-forward time until one appeared. I did that. All that appeared was a big black screen saying I'd been caught hacking into their systems and my account was terminated. Can someone tell me why this occurred, and maybe reassure me that this wasn't an entire waste of money?

It occured because you fucked up and forgot to clear your tracks. Do the tutorial again.

I appreciate your bluntness. As long as that's all it was, I don't give a damn. It just seemed too coincidental that I was ff-ing while logged in to the system, since it does dc you after awhile. Thanks.

Not a problem, remember, always use InterNIC as your first bounce point, once finished your hack log in there as admin and delete your bounce log. Also delete your admin login (Should say "Password accepted or something) but leave your connection and disconnection logs.

Technically, you don't have to do that. When I first played, I would delete all my logs (exluding the disconnection log, because that doesn't appear until you disconnect).

@mcc36: But like Rkiver said, delete your logs at a secure location (i.e., InterNIC, because I-NIC never traces you) so as to get away scot-free from passive traces.

Also, think like this: Who did you hack? If it was a normal company you should have got a notice on mail saying they want you to pay. If it was a government server though they would take you directly.

If you do not know what to do and how to solve your problem, you need to go to a better place and consult with guys who wore about good offer. You know, I was looking for a job to make phtos of animals, and finally, I was able to find a photographer job in Dubai. I found an offer to work at the wedding. Happy bride so glad there, so at least I will take care of them and feed them. I don't like such things, but I want to make real good portfolio for myself.
