This has happened on many of my Agents that I have used for Uplink. Whenever I am doing a job, I get caught. It isn't straight away because I bounce the calls and use the trace tracker and then I complete the job. But then, perhaps a week to a month after the job I get disavowed for being caught. I wondered if it could be my logs so then I did the same job and made sure I deleted my logs from the the place I was hacking but I still got caught! :(

By the way, the question is "why do I keep getting caught?". Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

Make your first bouce through interNIC (uplink test also works but is a pain cos the password changes).

After each and every job (and half way through complex jobs involving multi-hacks), bounce through one bank and get into interNIC admin. Delete the logs about connections being routed, and delete the log about password authorisation.

Now that computer has no indication of your real IP, and no-one can track you. They will follow the log chain back to that computer, and get stuck.

Do not delete the logs of you connecting to delete logs - because the system records you disconnecting as well, and a lone disconnect log would look suspicious.

Bouncing through a bank may not be neccesary, Im not sure and dont feel like experimenting.

But the way I delete logs, there are a lot of non-incriminating logs containing my IP left. Makes me nervous, so I connect through a bank so other peoples IPs appear instead.

By the way, the Uplink Test Server's password doesn't change, it's the same one each time. I would however recommend that you use InterNIC as the first bounce. I usually do the Test one second, but that's just as a precaution. :)

1) you dont need to bounce throught a bank first.  i just connect directly to internic and delete the logs specified above.  this works becuase internic doesnt trace you.

2) you dont need to delete the logs on the computer your hacking (and probably shouldn't waste the time.)

I always use Uplink Public Access when deleting logs on InterNIC. In addition to that, I NEVER use UPA in my hacks. Therefore, that IP is a 'no-hack-zone' that I can use without any fear of cross-referencing checks between the logs of separate hack jobs that -real- sysadmins would do.

One more piece of advice: Think ahead. More specifically think ahead to your NEXT connection before starting your hack. If you're going to do a bank job, then set up a route to YOUR bank first, save it, then  route to the target bank. Do the job, disconnect, load, connect, clean up, disconnect, then immediately UPA -> InterNIC and delete your traces, bounces first.

Hacking banks for profit is a very easy way to get Game Over after Uplink Agent Level 10. If you don't want to get caught, earn money the right way and stay away from bank jobs.

If you don't want to be a puss, though... c'mon... ¬_¬

Good paranioa CrazyCarl   I personally connect to Introversion Software site, then InterNIC, then a Public Access Server, then accounts at every bank, then more Public Access Servers and low-security, pre-hacked systems.  I also use government systems for high-security/fast-trace jobs, especially for LANs.  Last, I connect to random Public Access Servers or banks for InterNIC log clearing.  But I still have more trouble with Quadra LAN (in my game) than with any other system, even ARC's systems...think I hit a little bug.
Can you do what I do?  Can you hunt deer and cyber-criminals at the same time?  Ete mor dere!
