So I stumbled on the Uplink Credits Machine from my gateway in LA, and as you can imagine, it's just the credits for the game. But there's no log list...if you can't look at the logs, you can't be traced...if you pass through the UCred Machine, are you untraceable?

No just because you can't see the logs doesn't mean they do not exist.  Several systems in the game have hidden logs, ie Public Access Servers.  The feds will still be able to hunt you down if you bounce through them.  However if another hacker hides his trail in one there is no way to trace him.  :)

I just found that out the hard way. Which leads me to my next question.

I just got busted. I don't get it. I'd always disintegrate the logs at my target (cd log, delete) and strip InterNIC of any evidence.

I imagine it had something to do with that annoying "127.0.0.1 disconnected" log you leave behind when you disconnect. If that's the only log left, they get you, right? Was that my mistake?

You do not need to delete logs at the target, only InterNIC.  And the 127.0.0.1 disconnect logs will not give you away, but they do look suspicious if you don't leave the 127.0.0.1 connect log.  :)

Quick note: make sure you get the "Password Accepted" log, too. They'll nail you for that.

Don't bump old posts, period. Regardless as to whether you think you have something useful to add.
