CPU fan

Postby lorencyna » Sat Dec 15, 2012 11:01 am

Do I have to have my CPU fan hooked up to the variable speed control for the fan to work? I was working on my computer and I accidentally broke my variable speed control knob. Now my CPU fan i s not running. Is it not working because of that? Or is it something else? Also my computer has been overheating lately and I think it's time for a new CPU fan. So to reiterate, do I have to have my CPU fan hooked up to the variable speed control for the fan to work?

So long as the fan is plugged into a fan power socket. Usually 2 or three little pins and a back plate, it will work. If it doesn't, make sure that its not the socket that's not working. After that, I would try a new fan. And also, a fan is kind of essential to stop your system overheating.
