VAserv hacked, data destroyed

Postby DimitryZ » Wed Jun 10, 2009 6:39 pm

I don't know if it is appropriate to discuss this here.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/VAServ-Hack-Results-in-Massive-Data-Loss-113660.shtml

This actually reads a LOT like a news report in the Uplink universe.

Since I was one of their client (and lost all my data there), and the programmer whose negligent was responsible for the hack apparently hanged himself, I suddenly realize that such things are no laughing matter in real world.

It's not everyday one can delete 100,000 websites in a single run. I wonder if business-destroying hacks in Uplink would be common in the future. (Hope not.)

The boss of the company that runs the servers was not soley responsible for the hack and the reason he hung himself was a combination of things, the suicides of his sister and mother also played big roles, it just seems that this unfortunatly finished him off,

the web has lost one of the few true good guys
