EEE PC: Demo vs Download

Postby Nickname » Sat Oct 11, 2008 6:13 pm

Hi all,

I have an Uplink Version 1.31 from 2006, that I want to install on EEE PC.

When I start I get

./uplink: line 44: __*a number*__ Segmentation fault $here/lib/uplink.bin.x86 "$@"

I installed the patch 1.55, I downloaded and installed an actual Uplink Version 1.54 - I always get the same error.

After searching some forums I added some libs to the system (libglut, libstdc, libgtk, ..and more) - this also did not help. The experiments with screenwidt and screendepth did also not succeed.

At least I had the idea to get the demo, extracted and installed it and
:arrow: IT WORKED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM :shock: :shock: :evil:

The Standard Xandros system of the EEE is almost unchanged, the repositories I use are adviced from an EEE site.

The fact that the demo is working tells me that hardware and OS are applicable, so

HOW CAN I MAKE THE FULL VERSION START ?

Can someone help me :roll: ? Thx in advance.

The demo installation file is uplink-demo-1.54,sh.

The error message (1.31 or 1.54, patched or not) is like this:

Code: Select all

/home/user> uplink/uplink

Good idea. This gets me forward.

I made a full install and a demo install. They use different libraries:

Code: Select all

/home/user> ls uplink
uplink/                          uplink-demo/
uplink-complete-1.31.sh          uplink-demo-1.54.sh
uplink-complete-1.54DOWNLOAD.sh  uplink-patch-1.55.sh
/home/user> ./uplink/lib/uplink.bin.x86
./uplink/lib/uplink.bin.x86: /home/user/uplink/lib/../lib/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6)
/home/user> ls uplink/lib/*.so*
uplink/lib/libgcc_s.so.1   uplink/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0
uplink/lib/libgltt.so.0    uplink/lib/libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0
uplink/lib/libmikmod.so.3
/home/user> ls uplink-demo/lib/*.so*
uplink-demo/lib/libfreetype.so.6  uplink-demo/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0
uplink-demo/lib/libftgl.so.0      uplink-demo/lib/libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0
/home/user>

Seems I have to play with apt ..

Try to rename the libgcc_s.so.1 file. That usually helps for some reason.

Thank you Culex, that is the point.

@also see this

The game now uses the system lib.

The problem above starting with ./uplink/uplink depended on the console window. A console opened with the filebrowser at easy mode or the consoles at advanced desktop mode are ok.

Code: Select all

/home/user> ./uplink/uplink
./uplink
./uplink/lib/uplink.bin.x86: ./uplink/lib/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6)
/home/user> mv uplink/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 ./libgcc_s.so.1.rename
/home/user> ./uplink/uplink
./uplink

Try using the latest version, ie not 1.31.
