Redshirt2 and Hex Editor

Postby Benschman » Fri Aug 24, 2007 12:18 am

Hi all,

i'am new here, and i need some help, please. (Please excuse my English, i'am from Austria)

I was trying to decrypt my .usr File with Redshirt2, and modify it with a Hex Editor, because I need some Money.

(Reason is, i have played uplink for Months, but i always missed the Storyline, because i was waiting to long for the ARC Hack)

In fact, this damn editing thing won't work. When I decrypt it, the size shrinks from 1.xxx kb to 11 kb? This isn't right, or is it?

Besides, i cant find the Credit Hex Values in the decrypted File.
I found some Howto's for that case on the net, and i'am doing like they say, but i cant find the values.

So, i just wanna edit this File for Money! Can anyone tell how to do?

Thanks and Greets,

Ben

Why don't you hack a bank?

Wait for the bank missions. When you spot a big amount in an account, you simply transfer it to yourself.

Hi

Thanks for your Reply.

In my last game session, i hacked 3 bank accounts with a total amount of more then a millon credits.More then enough, BUT,
i'd like to improve my "real hacking" skills. So i asked this question.

If its too difficult, then i won't do it. But if its possible with the hex editor, i will try. Give me a hint, please!

ah, real hacking skill.

Perhaps the Redshirt2 file you are using is bogus? Try this redshrt2.exe?

Also, you could try the memory editing method with a tool like T-Search or Artmoney.

Not sure if this stil works, but i did it a couple of years ago..

I opened the game, noted down how much money i had, then opened the user file and searched for the hexcode containing the number of money i had..
Then i made a boormark there ( or note down the location ), then back in game and buy somethign cheap. Then back into the editor and find the new number. Just keep continuing this untill you only have 1 result left.
For me that was the value to change..

Oh man, why is this so difficult?

Thanks for your help, but nothing really works.

At Artmoney i get hundred of values.

At the Hex Editor, there is no value, for example, 3000, 2500 or 1450.

Ok then, i have to play again and hack some banks.
Anyway, cheating stinks, right? :D

Greets, Ben

Edit: NOW it worked, finally. I'am kinda stupid. If i use Artmoney the right way, it works.

yes, i can't use redshirt2 to.

it's easier to hack the memory (using artmoney/gamehack/tsearch/etc.) than hacking the saved game.

:D

not redshirt2

That may be one of the changes in 1.55. ;)

- Changed : 'options' file is now encoded in Redshirt 2.
- Changed : Saved games are now encoded in Redshirt 2. If the hash calculation fails, it will try to load the last good version of the saved game.

PS. Not the same Redshirt 2 as Darwinia.

I realize this topic is years old and I greatly apologize. I downloaded Artmoney and i cannot find the file i am looking for, it searches for a ".AMT" format but my file is in ".USR." and redshirt doesnt convert it. i'm just exploring options at this point.

T-Search (and I guess Artmoney) change the memory of a running program...

It's really fun, I've used it to change values of a C64 program running in an emulator.

See the forum post about Artmoney already linked in this very thread...
