greetings Uplink Forum!, just discovered this game on gametap...then tracked down a hard copy....got the 1.31 patch installed...is there anything else i should need?...whats 'Steam' all about?...and subsequent patches for that...im fast getting deep into this game as it is such an original specimen, and eager to learn all i can...oh and....whats the deal with fullscreen off?

Eugh, I hate Gametap! Mainly because I can't get it here, but that isn't the point.

Steam is the distribution software made by Valve (VERY well known for the Half Life Series and Counter Strike), and Uplink (as well as Defcon and Darwinia) has been placed onto this surface providing a way for people to buy it.

The latest patch can be found in The Latest Patch forum. It is in Beta though, so backup your game save first.

You should be able to enable full screen in the options. If you can't something funny is going on.

On a more serious note, if the version you've bought says that it's Uplink: Hacker Elite, return it to wherever you purchased it and buy it over Steam (a digital software distribution system) or straight from IV. Not only does this ensure that Introversion gets more money to make games, but it also ensures that the copy you own is compatible. Unfortunately, if you don't like using credit/debit cards over the net, then you're probably stuck with what you can buy physically (although both Steam and IV support Paypal, I believe, making it more secure). As an added bonus, if you buy a physical copy from IV, you get all the Bonus disk stuff.

On the DVD case discs you do (mine does).

I'll look what version it is.

Edit: On a side note, discs made after 1999 by mediamfg.com do.

What is the difference of UPLINK HACKER ELITE and UPLINK (NORMAL), is there some different missions? is there another story line? does it have better graphics?

Give me information, and where can i get it?

First post in this very forum thread Who's selling Hacker Elite? IV takes legal action...

It's _almost_ like Uplink, it's just _illegally_ sold and there is not guarantees that the official patches will install on it.
