Uplink website hacked by The Laughing Man?
Hello,
It appears our main website (www.uplink.co.uk) has been taken over by a hacker calling himself The Laughing Man. Apologies for this, but we're currently locked our of our admin panels and can't repair the damage until we regain control. We're in contact with our web provider and normal service should be resumed soon.
We'll let you know more as we find out how this happened.
Chris

Seems highly unlikely Chris would go to the trouble of making and stickying this post if this wasn't some kind of publicity stunt...
Plus he's still hanging around the forum an hour after the post, waiting for a reaction, methinks...

A project Chris has been working on behind our backs, or just a fansite?
Ghost in the Shell is (apparantly) an Anime series. Just ask people in #uplink about it, there's plenty who know about it. It has a lot to do with hacking and stuff, and apparantly one of the hackers can hack peoples brains and make people see the laughing man logo instead of the persons face. Or something.

Close enough. Ghost in the Shell was a movie, and a spin-off anime series appeared later on called Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex. The Laughing Man appeared in the series and, as Darksun pointed out, could hack into the cybernetic implants that people had installed in their brains in order to alter their perception of him. Or something.
