I'm trying to organize a large scale silent protest on the gas prices, where i live it is now $1.16/L (that a litre) Canadian... this sucks
take this picture (i found it on some random picture page, so i take no credit for making it) and make it your avatar, here, or on MSN, or where ever...
fight the power..!

Yes. And your protest is going to lower the price of crude oil how?
Prices go up, 'cos oil is more expensive. When you can find a way to synthesis it yourself, you can lower the price.

Any other British people remember the petrol blockades a few years ago? That was probably the most effective protest I've seen...
Petrol prices here have gone from ~AU$0.85 to ~$1.20 in the last couple of years, it really hits my wallet hard...

Effective in what way? It annoyed the hell out of a lot of people unable to get to work, but didn't do shit to lower prices.
And what you're paying in Canada is a hell of a lot cheaper than UK prices

Round where I am the equivalent canadian $ price would be $2, count yourself lucky.
I'm sure it's worse in other places in the uk, I'm rather remote.

I always find it amusing when people from that side of the pond complain and whine about petrol prices.
Recently, I queried some people on US prices, I was given figures (once I worked out the currency conversion AND the sodding imperial units they use) such as £0.36 per litre.
At that point I laughed.
Over here, in the UK, it'll cost you about £0.95 per litre.
Oh, it's costing you a whopping £0.53 per litre. Big fscking deal.
Also, using that as your MSN avatar?
Yeah, I'm sure that will work, I bet all politicians view your MSN avatars on a regular basis!
Your contacts might find it funny, but that will be it.

It really wasn't a serious protest there guys, it was more or less just a post about the high prices, and that's it.
I'm well aware that the people that matter are really not looking at avatars and whatnot, Jesus I'm not totally daft.

I know many people who suggest that sort of thing seriously, unfortunately.Sadly, they're not the sharpest tools in the shed.
When you're on a board populated by many a UKian, avoid complaining about prices being high when to us those prices are a pitance.

Though, to be fair, our petrol is a higher ocatane than most north american stuff. They run on 75 or something? Crazy.

The octane rating varies, but most stations in the US carry up to 90+ octane fuel.
Living in New York city I don't have a car and rarely see a gas station, so this doesn't directly affect me. However it is interesting that many Americans love the Bush tax cuts, yet fail to realise Bush is also a major reason gas prices have skyrocketed in the US and in doing so have virtually erased the benefits of the tax cut.

You call them imperial, I call them USian.

Well it's not our fault! You silly Brits are the ones who got us started on them.

Pfft, USian ones are smaller, probably to make it look like you're getting more for your money.

US octane ratings are shocking.
Here in Australia the minumum octane rating that can be sold by law is 91, and most places also have a premium unleaded between 96 and 98 octane.

The gas prices here are much higher than they were a few years ago, but I'm not about to complain because it could be a lot worse. My last car had a 20 gallon tank and got around 17 miles/gallon city, 25 highway. My current car has a 12.5 gallon tank and gets 28 miles/gallon city 37 highway. Even though the prices are higher I'm paying about the same amount of cash that I did before for gas.
Everyone says that I'm crazy for putting the middle-grade (91 octane, I believe) gas in my car. I could either put the cheap shit in, have my car burn through it faster, and have it wear out my 10-year-old engine, or I could put the better stuff in, have my car run better, and get good gas mileage out of it.
