Uplink Soundtrack

It seems that complaining really does work...I've redone my Uplink Sountrack archive to include Blue Valley and 3 additional tracks from the Bonus CD. I've also changed the bitrate as the old one was overkill. Weighing in at 32mb, you can get it from

The joy of people with too much time on their hands. Well thanks anyways, I like it.

No problem. Sitting for 12 minutes waiting for a song to finish playing is really really fun :p

Not to be a nit-picker coolsi, but any chance of an archive with only the music from the Bonus CD? Anyone (well, most people, anyway) with half a brain cell can extract the music from the Uplink installation. And 32mb is an annoyingly large file to download, especially when it contains plenty of dupelicate data.
P.S. Is IV still selling the Bonus CD?

Duplicate data? Eh? :|
They're no longer selling the Bonus CD but you can download some of it from Ambrosia, I think.
Bonus tracks will be available sometime soon.

Allright, Coolsi!!!
Nice job, man. We needed that!!! I've actually managed to get a soundtrack, but it's in some s3m format, and i can't convert it to Audio Cd to listen on my CD player.

Thanks coolsi, never hurts to have some tracks like that just playing it the backround while reading.

As in, the tracks in the original .zip that where already extractable from the original Uplink install.

Yeah, but they were in totally different formats.
.uni files (like .mod and .s3m) store each sound as a sample. These samples are played when the composer wants them to be played using tracker software - so if they want a drum beat every beat, they'll set it so a drum sample plays every beat. This means that a decent song can be made from a low number of sounds and as each one is only stored once, it keeps the file size low - the Uplink tracks are about 300kb each.
MP3s (like .wav, .ogg and many others) store the whole song. So the drum beat I mentioned above will be stored each time it's wanted to be played (well, not quite, but I say that to draw a comparison). This means that the file size is higher.
So yeah, the end product may sound the same but they aren't really duplicate. Sure, you can use Mikmod to play the .unis but as far as I know, there is only a .mod to .uni converter, no vice versa. So to play in mainstream audio players I converted them to a widely used format - MP3.

Actually there is a way to go from uni to mod. Rename it, I did it for Blue Valley and it worked

Hm, using what player?
As far as I know they are different formats, otherwise there would be no point having a UNI to MOD converter, heh.
Anyway, I tried that for one track and Winamp didn't like it.

Sometimes renaming the extension, a program will still treat it as the original when reading it. But sometimes they just get bitchy and say "fuck off, I don't know this filetype."
