Stupid warez requests

Postby Punisher Bass » Mon Jul 05, 2004 5:08 am

Well I just found this lovely message in my gmail.

It reads:

"From: rami dabain <rmd_teamer@hotmail.com>
To: awol5150@gmail.com
Date: Sun, 04 Jul 2004 15:34:53 +0000
Subject: Please...

Can you send me the full version of uplink ??? please ???
i am asking you as a friend"

Now this isn't the first time I've been sent this kind of message, nor will it be the last I'm sure, but this is one of the strangest warez requests I've gotten. I've never heard of this person before so why would he be asking me "as a friend"?

Normally it's someone crying about how their house burned down in a fire, their dog was run over by a MACK truck, someone analy rapped their mother while pouring sugar in their gas tank (bonus points to whoever gets that line) and they want me to send them the full version of Uplink.

I've also had "could you find it in your heart?" and "I'll buy the full version, just send me a crack so I can test it". Then I have the normal "WaR cAn i DoWnnLod UpLiNk Fo FREEEE!!!!!????!!!!!???? PlAsE!!!!! NO MONEY!!! NeEd DoWnLoAd!!!!????"

Most of the time I'll either ignore it or I'll send a nice message reading "Buy the game you cheap asshole" or something to that effect. However tonight when I recived this "as a friend" e mail, which creeps me out, I decided to do a little something different.

I whipped up a little file named UplinkFullvcrack.exe. What it really is is just a txt file containing my standard reply from above repeated about 2 million times. What I'd really like to do is send these people a virus or something that would make them sorry for wanting to pirate Uplink.

Anyway, I know I'm not the only one out there who gets these kinds of messages. What kind of warez requests have the rest of you recived over the years? I'm not talking about posts made on here, but private messages sent directly to you.

That's illegal. It doesn't matter that they wanted to do something illegal themselves, if you go round sending them viruses then you'll be stooping down to their level.

And yeah, I've got a few warez requests by email and PM...

I just get random, unintelligable help(?) requests. Half the time I don't even know what the problem is

Yea, I've had one pmed to me on irc, I think they said there excuse for not buying the game was simply that they were "belgian", and left it as that.

On Darksun's note, I have previously had someone contacting me via aim wanting help, they were, alas, atypical of the aol user stereotype, asking for help. I think they understood what I was saying, but it's hard to be sure.

You DO realise I'm working on a "crack" that makes the game not ask for a key when you start a user.
And then stops 20 minutes into the game, or when they reach level 5. Whichever is the sooner...

Like the demo, but different...

I'm just not sure whether I'd be allowed to deploy it.

I've had two people add me on MSN and ask for it, and that's about it.

The first conversation was nice and quick.

[23:32:55] Scout: I got ur msn from the uplink site.. i have a small thing i'd like to know if u can help me with
[23:33:17] Me : OK...
[23:33:30] Scout: I bought the game a while ago, and my brother let this friend of his borrow the CD, which was a dumb move. Now the guy moved and apparently wont return the game. I was wondering if it would be too much trouble for you to send me the file.
[23:33:45] Me : Yes, yes it would.
[23:33:54] * Scout has been blocked

The second one wasn't.

[20:59:22] André: hello, man
[20:59:26] Me: Hello.
[20:59:33] André: my name is Andre, and i speak from Brazil.
[20:59:40] André: need help from you. please, dont ban me.
[20:59:46] André: can you speak to me /
[20:59:47] André: ?
[20:59:54] Me: I can.
[21:00:17] Me: But now I'm wondering why you have to ask me not to ban you.
[21:00:26] André: I have a Uplink game CD.
[21:00:44] André: Need to install it, but I haven´t the table code verificator.
[21:00:53] André: this table to create new users. do you know?
[21:01:09] Me: I know nothing.
[21:01:29] André: play u uplink game?
[21:01:39] André: have u a cd of this game?
[21:01:49] Me: Play I uplink do.
[21:02:39] André: when u need to create a new user, the sistem asks 'play the code row XXX line YYY'. right?
[21:02:59] André: speaks portuguese?
[21:03:05] Me: Speaks english.
[21:03:18] André: do u understood me?
[21:03:23] André: when u need to create a new user, the sistem asks 'play the code row XXX line YYY'. right?
[21:03:32] Me: Yes
[21:04:00] André: the table code verificator is an txt file?
[21:04:06] André: or word document?
[21:04:19] Me: No.
[21:04:22] Me: It's very real.
[21:04:52] André: it is from CD game?
[21:04:58] Me: Yes.
[21:05:17] André: your cd is genuine media, or cd copy?
[21:05:31] Me: I bought it from Chris.
[21:06:02] André: it is a file, or a print document?
[21:06:12] Me: It's a card.
[21:06:27] André: card printed?
[21:06:47] Me: Yes.
[21:07:04] André: oh,
[21:07:09] André: :'(
[21:07:27] André: I need the data of this card.
[21:07:33] André: i lost mine
[21:07:53] Me: You should be more careful.
[21:08:21] André: whats price of this card boughted from chris?
[21:08:39] Me: About the same as the game itself.
[21:08:59] André: have u a scanner?
[21:09:07] Me: Yes.
[21:09:17] Me: The card won't scan, though
[21:09:21] Me: Black on black.

[21:10:15] André: please scan from me
[21:11:16] André: thanks man

Uplink has a warez config that shuts down after a certian level, telling the user to buy the game. I'm not sure if it's ever used, but someone with the DevCD can check it out if they want

Darksun!
PLEASE stop repeating my ideas!
You do it on IRC, you do it here.

I've expanded on the original code a bit.
I'll give you a copy when I fix the mailbomb bug...

I don't get mails like this but a -used to be- friend of mine downloaded Uplink on Kazaa and he asked me for the keycard, i refused to give it to him and he left it that way, the next day i realise the card doesn't stick to the side of my screen, my 'friend' took it and drawed it over on a piece of paper the lousy cock :x
Things like this really get me fucking pissed

Simple answer, dont make email address's public heh, anyone who has a legit reason to contact you can send a PM on forum to you asking for email address and why.

Anyone that actualy has to ask someone to send them any game or ask for cracks/serials/etc is so stupid its not funny, and should not be allowed to: 1) reporduce. 2) use the internet.

Just take the warning lables off of everything and these morons would be weeded out through natural selection. The kid who swallows too many marbles doesn't grow up to have kids of his own.

Uh... I was just pointing out that what you were planning was already implemented. And what other ideas of yours do I repeat?
