my parents think that playing online games is a very useless thing to do, probably in the whole world. They also think it makes you very violent in your day-to-day life (i'm not, surely!) .

I told them about the online gaming community : about how large it is & everything, but they are just unable get it into their heads, you see, i'm only 16, still "very young" for realising how is the real world ("it is not as good as you think or know" : my mom.)

You're 16?!

I thought you were about 12..

It doesn't necessarily make you violent. I don't play online games, but that doesn't make me any less neurotic. Several people I know are very violent, but they don't touch computers outside of the occasional lesson.

If you aren't violent to begin with, I doubt that online gaming will make you violent. It might desensitise you to violence, but cause it?

What has playing online games got to do with "How it is in the real world"? If, by their standards you are a child, then why aren't you allowed to play?

I'm 18 in December, but I have been playing what I've wanted to play, for ages. It's more a case of whether I can afford a game or if someone else can lend me it.

I have been mostly playing..
-Yager
-Enter The Matrix
-Battlefield Vietnam

But not much, maybe half an hour per day or something. Too busy with work, graphics and webpages for gaming.

I think it may be since menancer is in a different culture he is still treated as a very young child by comparrison to those of us who live in so called "Western World".

Thank you for all the kind words towards my letter, hopefully it will be published and yet another member of the Uplink community will join those who have had letters printed in PC Gamer Uk. Also get this months PC Format UK, as in the free Gamemaker magazine yet another interview with Chris is there. The people over in PCG and PCF really do love Introversion.

As a recent 12 year old I take great offense in that statement.

Ozymandias IV: You can be 12 and not act like your average 12 year old. Or you can 16 and act the average 12 year old. Take TimTim, he is almost 15 and in person acts more mature then a lot of 18 year olds I know.

He's right.

We have to make some assumptions, even though they aren't set in stone, otherwise we have no basis.

Plus I look older then I really am. A good few of Rkivers flatmate's thought I was 17/18.

And I get into Kill Bill 2 without any problems.

Great letter, Rkiver. I hope it gets printed.

Most people think I'm 15-17, however, I'm 12.
