Recently after enjoying Uplink and playing through all of it, I started making an online version of it for fun. It will be played in the webbrowser and is made in PHP, but dont think this means its simple and boring, as it has good grpahics and gameplay. People will be able to register, and play against people or computer simulations, hacking into different computers or servers, similiar to uplink. Some things will be similiar to uplink, some will be different, and there are going to be a lot of new things too, and hacking wont be the only way to get money.

If theres enough interested, I'll put a lot of work into it to get it done

No offence, but i'd bet quite a lot that this will never take off.
Yes, it is a great idea, but many, many people have tried beore and failed.

But if you are willing to put in the effort, do it! You will have the whole community backing you.

AnthonyS pretty much summed it up, so if you think you can do it, go for it and MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE IT :P

Good luck :)

Thanks for the comments, I've been looking for a programming project to do in my spare time, and this is now it :) If I manage to at least get some people some enjoyment out of it, it will be worth it.

I will continue working on it and keep people updated if they're interested in this thread :)

This sounds interesting, keep up your work!
It would be nice if you could be able to show us some screens asap :).

Anyway, there's another browser hacking simulator called LOST. It's not really that much hacking, it's more like an RPG where you build up your machine, buy better hardware and software, team up in hacking cells, hack into other players etc etc...
But there's actually not that much hacking in LOST. When you eg join a mission all you have to do is click a Join button.
But LOST is however a great game, and it has a great community (I'm a part of it).
You can find it at www.lost.no
(too bad it's currently down due to the creator of LOST is moving IRL and doesn't have the time to fix some errors... :p) But I believe it'll be up soon again, be sure to check it out!

To you, Sym33, I wish you all the best luck in the creation of your game.
If you need any help with coding/graphics/ideas etc; feel free to contact me. I would be more than glad to be a part of your project too (as I am in LOST).
The fun thing, actually, is that I've had plans on creating a browser hacking simulator... The only thing is that I haven't had enough time (due to another project) nor enough experience in PHP/ASP.
But as I said, feel free to contact me and tell me more about your project!

Thanks :)

Of course, I'll need a few people to test it (although this'll probably be a little while yet) before it goes public.

If you're interested, let me know

I was thinking about making a game like this, but decided to make a football management game (nearly complete, kinda in the beta stage (topthetable.com). If you need any help in the development side of things (PHP/SQL) then contact me.

If you need help with graphics, send me a PM.
Can't help coding though, busy with my own project.
