Will you guys back off? If PB wants to be protective of his work, then so be it. It's HIS work, after all....

Besides, does it _really_ matter to you whether there is an HTML guide or not?

Gotta agree with ReflectingGod on this one. It is PB's, he can do as he chooses, kudos to him for converting it to pdf format.

Aaah, I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were talking to einsten, it was certainly more justified.

But still... how long would the Mac community have waited if Chris had insisted on keeping the bedroom programmer as an ideal above everything else? The Mac version would probably never have came.

Porting is often contracted out, because the original developer simply does not have the time, and a better product results anyway. And, and I hate to bring this up, open source (freedom of information) is the driving force of hacking.

So let sum1 else help u and let them do it... god it took me all of 10 seconds to do it... all i had to do was go to file->save as html.... it even puts all the pics in a nice folder for u. If u really really wanna do it urself y not just do that.... it takes... oh about 5 minutes and thats if ur really slow....

Im sorry but i really dont have ne fucking time for stupid and misplaced idealism... if something needs done get it done. Lets not faf about with who does it... or who has the creative rights to it... just do it! To much fucking talk and no work. The amount of time u took to tell us u r one man who doesnt have enuf time to do it, u could have done it.... FFS...

i give up with some of you ppl... ur ability to be awkward and make things more difficult than they have to be astounds me!

And sorri if i offend ne1 here but im really pissed off at the moment, and ppl being poncy about there work is not helping.

oh and FYI, i didnt ask u to justify yourself or answer to me... my comments on you are exactly that... comments... i was not questioning you... i dont care y u do it... im just saying its stupid, flawed, and impractical...

U dont have to justify to me, just as i dont have to to ne1, but seriously... stop being a twat and either do it urself or let sum1 else do it... it will benefit the community... which after all is the aim here.

Have you ever seen the HTML that Word generates?
Nasty, nasty code...
Seriously, anyone who actually uses that shit needs shooting.
It took about 3-4 hours (i think) for me to convert my guide, including making the menu. Shame Word doesn't generate good HTML... probably would have taken a lot less time :/

Well acording to ein's logic, it doesn't matter if it's a shitty conversion as long as it gets done. The quality of the work doesn't matter as long it's there.

as an interm solution quality is second to practicality, yes. the code may be ugly... but it looks to the end user IDENTICAL to the word version... so unless Punisher, you consider your word version ugly and of low quality, the converted version looks of equal quality. I will conceed word creates some interesting html tags... but tbh when a user looks at ur guide for help they aint going to go.. lets have a look at the source just to see how good it is... and what tags he has used to set up spacing... lets be serious.

The code is messy, the output is equal... so until u can b assed coding the entire thing in html... where is the harm in using the word produced stuff?

The MS code is totally unmaintainable, but it would do for the time being.  There is no point in having great work that is inaccessable.  I don't mod so I have no real stake in anything PB does, but it does seem a bit silly to so tightly restrict some of the great work he does, it only serves to harm him, but that is his perogative.  He can shoot himself in the foot as much as he wants, I guess.  :)

Sure, converting the guide to html would be far more practical, nicer to look at, and just generally better.....

But if PB doesn't want it done he has the right to say so. Leave him alone, it's his work....

Back to the topic at hand...
I will most likely be adding jump-to points in the code and a submenu thing on the intro page, so you can just jump to the exact part of whatever page you need. I'll probably start work on that this evening, but i wont guarentee it.

Converting a word document into html format shouldnt take anyone (that knows what there doing) more than 30 mins or so, depending on the file

Regardless, there will be a Proxy Blue guide to Uplink available at Proxy Blue, this will be in .htm, .doc, .pdf and .rtf so everyone can access it.

P.S. there is a couple of nice Proxy Blue Gateways I uploaded today, go have a look.
