I was on a file sharing network yesterday, and I decided that since I had nothing better to do, I'd harrass some people sharing Uplink.  Well, I typed out a very formal message, complete with info from the GNU License Agreement, as well as info from anti-piracy laws.  To make a long story short, I went around to as many people as I could, spamming them with this message over and over.  Most ignored me, but this one guy in Amsterdam got really pissed off, and we kept arguing for over an hour.  I did manage to get a few to stop sharing Uplink, because I gave them some shit about how they could be fined no less that $5000 or sent to prison for no more than one year.  I guess that scared them, lol.  As for that one guy, boy did I ruin his day.  :)

This wasn't my first attack on those warez monkeys, and it won't be my last effort by far.  Maybe I can find some sort of vulnerability in P2P messaging features, such as buffer overflows, or OOB data.  Hell, these P2P programs all use some default port or another...maybe that can be helpful in attacking them.  One person said he bought the game, then he said it was warez, then he said it shouldn't matter cause it was $9.99 at his local store.  I asked him why he was such a cheap shit son of a bitch, and he said cause his mommy wouldn't give him $10.  And that was after he was talking about how he was some rich, important, very intelligent adult of 28.  FUCKING HILARIOUS! ;)

Warez Monkeys don't tend to be too bright.

One told me he was a hacker, very l337 and all, working for the government using Sub7 *lol!*

Then after some funny convo came the line:
"Gotta go eat dinner brb"

*ROOOFL*

Cute.

Well here is an idea. P2P networks arent like IRc where you cans end files directly between users. On example kazaa, pronounced kaza, im sorry but when someoen says kazaaaa it makes me cringe. Anyway back to the subject at hand. P2P files you request must be sent through servers. So brainwave time, DDoS the servers, keep it up for a decent enough time and bingo. Its that or get a zombie user to setup a specila box and keep a continuouse attack on several machines.

Errr.... P2P = peer to peer = transmission between equals = transmission between clients.

So no.

from what i know kazaa is based around supernodes and clients: default kazaa runs on port 1214 or 80 but this can be changed, transmission uses the http protocal
so building a sniffer shouldnt be too hard from this people could sniff traffic to see which has the most data coming through (most likely supernode but could be active user)and then build a list of the supernodes (assumpition: supernodes dont change only added during high bandwith usage) then using several zombie machines attack the supernodes resulting in the tempory shutdown of kazaa until some bright spark deciedes to reboot kazaa and funcition as a supernode bringing the network back up:

I adore KaZaA. Yes it can be used for black magic and the like. But say you want to download something like the latest Counter Strike patch. Then search for it on KaZaA and download it. You can pause it. Get decent transfer rates because fof the people who will have it.

Unfortunatly it can be used for wazing though. Anyway, It hought Uplink was £20.

Some guy was stupid enough to give out his Email address when he was sharing UT2003. I sent him loads of spam Emails. I hate people that do that, theyre too cheap to pay for the game and reward the developers. Bastards.

You people don't realise that sending a strongly worded message to these warez monkeys doesn't make any fucking difference at all....

RG, it seems you haven't even tried.  I didn't send anything vulgar to these people.  I posed as an associate (or attorney) of several software companies, and using a very formal (short) speech, I was able to get several people to either remove the software from their system (at least they said this), or stop sharing (for the time being).  Most, however, were willing to be prosecuted for sharing even one file, and the sheer harrassment was enough to really piss some of them off.  I never claimed to have made a difference, but I did claim to at least try.

Suggestion- use somethiong like the crazie.co.uk emailer to send them a couple of million huge emails and completly flood their email address if you can get it.

Or maybe send them a message such as your IP has been logged, etc, in a recent legal action IV is prosecuting all illegal distributers of Uplink... etc.  Maybe you could scare one or two!

Anyway the problem is that the illegal trade of software is so big now that it is near impossible to prosecute all traders of it.

Additionally half the people here on the forums have downloaded millions of illegal programs and software, yet they just say they don't care because everybody does it, then someone downloads Uplink and suddenly everybody is as good as an angel- go figure!

Let us see... no one is going to stop warez and frankly (No offence meant!) you're wasting you're time even trying to do so.

If the American, Europeans, British and French courts can not stop Kazaa then no body going around pretending to be an attorney is going to. I happen to admin that I warez, nothing big.. mp3's and the like. But I do not hold with software warezing (Unless it is really bad like beach head ;)).

Seriously though... stop wasting your time and get on with your life. DOSing the servers eh? You'd need a lot of bandwidth and it wouldn't be worth it as the Kazaa company could sue you for the attack.

And believing that people have stopped warezing because they said so?! Are you thick? They haven't! They've just disabled it till you go away. Jeese... if it was all that simple Kazaa wouldn't exist!

Now go and find something worthwhile to do like giving money to charity... At least something might happen if you do that.

ps.. I seem quite angry today :(
