After hearing several rumors, I have to come to realize that the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has some sort of a hidden meaning.  I did a little research online, and didn't find anything too interesting, but it may have something to do with a cult.  What I think is the life of the rumor is the scene with the "Wonkatania" where he goes through that crazed tunnel reciting freakish verses.  I think this part sort of influenced a thought that it has a meaning to do with drugs.

If anyone knows anything about this, it greatly interests me and I'd appreciate a post.  It is one of my favorite movies, and I'd like to know about this, even if it is just a rumor.

And I do realize, Icepick, that this is off topic, and I know you will close it anyways, but I really want an answer to this.

The song he sings on the ship is actually the only one taken directly from original novel by Roald Dahl.  The whole movie can be seen as a Judeo-Christian Allegory, but most of the stranger lines are actually just quotes from various works of literature, many from Shakespeare.

The allegory comes in if you equate Wonka with God.  The song at the beginning sets this up with something about Wonka bringing sweetness to the world.  Then you go through all the sins of the various children and then the only one to repent, Charlie, is asked into Wonka's haven, or heaven, to live forever.

In the boat Wonka does speak in French there for a while:

Uhhhh . . . mesdames et messieurs, maintenant nous allons faire grand petit voyage par bateau.
-Ladies and Gentlemen, now we are going for a great little boat trip.

Voulez-vous entrer le Wonkatania?
-Do you want to come on the Wonkatania?

The song is:
There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're going rowing
Or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining
Is it snowing
Is a hurricane a-blowing
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of hell a glowing?
Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes! The danger must be growing
For the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing!
CHAOS!

The movie is categorized as a cult film as it has a very devoted following, but that is not meant to imply anything truely religious or dark.  :)

Ok, it seems like he was talking to SBM, which isn't cool if he really did mean to insult.  Personally, I found SBM's post quite insightful, and very interesting.  Also, the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou" is a HUGE reference to Odeaupis (fucked up spelling) and the Greek myth of the Odessey...the Sirens, the Cyclops, and many more other references.  Pretty cool if you read the story and watch the movie simutaneously
